Believ EV chargers in Redcar and Cleveland

Believ to install 22 charge points across Redcar and Cleveland

Charge point operator, Believ, is rolling out electric vehicle (EV) charge points across Redcar and Cleveland. The area is receiving funding for the project from the On-Street Residential ChargePoint Scheme (ORCS).

The first tranche of 22 chargers are set to be installed in the spring/summer of 2025, helping to boost Redcar and Cleveland’s EV network, support greener travel and provide charging to residents without driveways or access to at home EV charging.

Charge points will be located in a wide variety of council-owned car parks across community and leisure centres, and public parking areas. The first set will serve the long-stay and overnight charging needs of residents and visitors, and subsequent tranches will see Believ installing rapid charging to suit top-up charging and shorter driver dwell times.

Believ will support the ORCS-funded project in the planning of, installation, operation and ongoing maintenance of charge points.

Cabinet Member for Climate and Culture, Cllr Carrie Richardson says she is pleased to be working with Believ to ensure that the council stays ahead of the curve: “We are a forward-thinking council, making significant progress in developing the borough’s EV infrastructure to support local people with making greener travel choices.

“It is vital we deliver a reliable and accessible network for those who do not have access to private charging and to ensure no one is left behind in the transition to electric vehicles. That is why we are using government funding to serve the residential areas less likely to have attracted private industry funding.

“In partnering with Believ, we have access to all charging speeds and their depth of experience in understanding what technology is best suited to what location.”

Amanda Rymell, Senior Public Sector Partnerships Manager at Believ, says: “We are proud to support such a progressive council to help them achieve their net zero carbon emissions.

“The new installations across Redcar will significantly improve residents’ access to reliable, convenient EV charging – helping more drivers make the switch.”
